Strength of Machine elements is generally shorted as SOM. Again, civil engineering also includes the other SOM. It is Strength of Materials. Both subjects have common framework but different material.
Stress and Strain:
It starts from basic stress strain. We generally learn these concepts much before. It includes hooks law, stress strain curve, Poission’s ratio, modulus of rigidity, yield strength, ultimate strength, factor of safety, margin of safety etc.
Stresses in Machine Elements:
Here starts core mechanical part. It includes 3 main subtopics
- Bending Stresses.
- Shear Stresses.
- Bending of Curved Bars.
It is followed by topic slope and deflection for members in bending.
Principal Stresses and Strains:
This part employ practical stuff about stress and strain. Pressure vessels is very good example of the same.
Axially Loaded Coloumns:
This is one of very simple and interesting topic of SOM. It have few methods to follow and standard formulas so not to go a lot for it.
Properties of Engineering Materials:
This is theoretical part o SOM. It helps us to choose material for particular purpose in the industry. It covers a lot of theory like creep, stress concentration in metals, endurance limit, material selection.
So, this was SOM (Mechanical Engineering).
Thanks for Reading.
