Based on polyethylterephthalate (PET), Ertalyte is an un-reinforced semi crystalline thermoplastic polyester. It is manufactured from proprietary resin grades, and is found to have remarkable dimensional stability, outstanding wear resistance, high performance, a low coefficient of friction, and is able to resist acids better than polyacetal and nylon.
The following are some of Ertalyte’s impressive aspects:
- Ideal for both dry and wet environments
- Exceptional resistance to dirt
- Superb stain resistance
- Good electrical insulating properties
- Acceptable for food contact (FDA approved)
- Great creep resistance
- Good resistance to gamma and x-rays, and other high energy radiation
Ertalyte properties make it especially appropriate for the manufacture of mechanical precision parts that are meant to uphold high loads and/or are to endure wear. Compared to nylon and acetal, this material keeps more of its original strength in temperatures as high as 190° F. Furthermore, it provides better abrasion and chemical opposition, and its reduced humidity absorption allows electrical and mechanical properties to carry on almost entirely unaffected by moisture.
There is also Ertalyte TX, which is a polyethylene terephthalate compound that incorporates a solid lubricant that has been uniformly dispersed throughout it. In other words, this particular formula is PET + solid lubricant. This product not only boasts incredible wear resistance, but provides an even lower coefficient of friction, and has higher pressure-velocity capabilities compared to standard Ertalyte.
